Oakland Roots Sign Winger Satoshi “Yoshi” Chaffin


Oakland, Calif. (July 3, 2019) – Oakland Roots have signed former Santa Clara University and Seattle Sounders FC U-23’s winger Satoshi “Yoshi” Chaffin.

“Yoshi is versatile and can play as a forward, winger or defender,” said Roots Technical Consultant Eric Yamamoto. “He has outstanding pace and athleticism. He will give the group some options with his versatility and work ethic.”

Chaffin, 23, joined Seattle Sounders FC’s U-23 team after graduating from Santa Clara University (2014-17). He appeared in 13 matches for Sounders FC in 2018. Prior to that, Chaffin was an All-West Coast Conference selection as a senior with the Broncos. He recorded five goals and three assists in 65 career appearances for Santa Clara University, helping them reach the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Chaffin was born in Ebina-Shi, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan, but moved to the United States with his parents as a child.
