Oakland Roots Sign Trio: Ryan Masch, Ricardo Guerra, Eric Gonzalez
Oakland, Calif. (July 19, 2019) – Oakland Roots have signed a trio of players: center midfielder Ryan Masch, right back Ricardo Guerra, and midfielder Eric Gonzalez.
Masch, 25, has spent the last two years playing in Europe. A graduate of Santa Clara University, Masch was an All-West Coast Conference selection as a freshman. After his college career finished, he signed with Skövde AIK in Sweden. He scored one goal in 25 appearances for Skövde, then moved on to pursue new opportunities in Germany. Masch was born in San Jose, Calif. And played for De Anza Force, where Roots Technical Consultant Eric Yamamoto got his first look at the talented young player.
Guerra, 29, was a National Premier Soccer League Best XI player for CD Aguiluchos of Oakland in 2017. He captained the squad for four years, helping them reach the NPSL semifinals in 2015 and 2017. The versatile Cal State East Bay alumnus also suited up for City College of San Francisco during his first two years of college. He has experience at right back and winger. Guerra grew up in the East Bay, and attended San Lorenzo High School. Off the field, Guerra shares Roots mission of serving the community by working with Ashland REACH Youth Center.
Gonzalez, 25, is a product of the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA academy systems. He also spent time with the vaunted U.S. U-17 National Team Residency Program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The midfielder spent part of the 2019 season with Las Vegas Lights (USL), and has also played for Cal FC (UPSL) and SoCal FC (NPSL). In college, Gonzalez played for UC Riverside from 2012-15 and helped the Highlanders win their first-ever Big West Conference title in 2014.
