However, Oakland maintained their pressure and in the 15th minute, Jeciel Cedeño earned a penalty for the team, which Johnny Rodriguez calmly converted to give Oakland a 1-0 lead.
Monterey Bay responded in the 29th minute when Alex Dixon scored from the top of the box, finding the back of the net and equalizing the score at 1-1. However, Rodriguez quickly scored his second goal of the game, putting Oakland back in the lead at 2-1. The first half ended with Oakland Roots leading 2-1 after some chippy moments towards the end.
The second half started with both teams playing with great intensity, as if they hadn’t left the field. Monterey Bay had a promising chance in the opening 15 minutes, but Alex Dixon missed from close range with an empty net. Oakland Roots capitalized on their continued pressure and extended their lead in the 78th minute when Daniel Gomez assisted Memo Diaz, resulting in Oakland’s third goal and a 3-1 lead.
Both teams had a few more chances throughout the rest of the game, but the score remained 3-1 in favor of the Oakland Roots when the final whistle blew.
