Oakland Roots had control of the game early as striker Anuar Peláez had a couple of chances for Oakland inside the first 15 minutes of the game. Indy Eleven built their way into the game over the next quarter of an hour as two Oakland center backs picked up yellow cards. After a balanced first half, Darek Formella picked out Lindo Mfeka who headed the pass beyond the Indy keeper, setting himself up to give Oakland the 1-0 lead just moments before the half time whistle.
Indy came out of the lockers attacking in the second half and had control early on, forcing Oakland to play with their backs against the wall. After 25 minutes of absorbing pressure, Oakland found their chance to double the lead when Darek Formella scored off the rebound, in the 71st minute to make the score 2-0 in favor of Roots. Not long after Formella doubled the lead, Edragro Rito gave Oakland their 3rd of the game when he chipped the keeper on the counter to make the game 3-0 in favor of Oakland and seal the victory for the visitors.
Oakland Roots return home next Saturday, April 15, 2022 to take on Hartford Athletic. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM PT.
